Over The Edge!

Join Master Seamtress Deby Ryan and learn how to create your own cording!  During this workshop you will:

  • wrap your own cording
  • sew it into straight edges
  • sew it around right-angle corners, and
  • join the cording ends.

By the end of the workshop you will have created a beautiful pillow edged in your own cording!

Creating custom cording is a skill that’s useful for so many potential projects:

  • Bags
  • Pillows
  • Upholstery
  • Clothing (such as formal gowns!)
  • Quilts

Equipment and Materials

All you need to bring with you will be:

  • Fabric:  3 fat quarters of coordinating fabrics; one FQ each for the back, front, and cording (a fat quarter is approx 18″ x 22″, and are available for purchase at CQ)
  • Thread:  Color coordinated with one of the fabrics you’ve chosen (available for purchase at CQ)
  • Pillow Form: 12″ square pillow
  • Sewing Machine: With a regular presser foot and an invisible zipper foot  (With 10 working days’ notice, Crafters Quarters may be able to order an invisible zipper foot for  you, depending on your sewing machine style.)
  • Sewing Tools:  The usual assortment…  (Available at CQ for sharing among students)
    • Scissors
    • Rotary cutters, mats, and rulers
  • Optional, if you wish:  A special item to put on the pillow front, such as a photo transfer, quilt block, embroidery, t-shirt design, etc.

The instructor will provide:

  • Cording
  • Pillow pattern
