Obviously, Santa isn’t ready to start working on next Christmas! However, we are busily creating a new workshop for all those creative elves out there.
Watch this space for details!
June 2 (Saturday); 10:30 am - 4:30 pm
Instructor: Stephanye Schuyler
(Note: this workshop can be taken alone, or as Session 1 with Fabric Collage Construction)
Stephanye Schuyler’s fabric collage quilts have been accepted into the Houston show this year! In this 2-part series, Stephanye will show you the techniques she used to create her uniquely beautiful works of art. Students will explore a path to their creativity through the development of a small fabric collage quilt. This is a two-session class, but students can opt to take either one of the sessions if they wish.
Session 1 will focus on the design of the fabric collage for students interested in creating their own piece. Stephanye will show you how to explore color and value as you learn the technique of translating your own photograph into a quilt! Read more >
June 9 (Saturday); 10:30 am - 4:30 pm
Instructor: Stephanye Schuyler
(Note: this workshop can be taken alone, or as Session 2 with Point, Click, Quilt)
Stephanye Schuyler’s fabric collage quilts have been accepted into the Houston show this year! In this 2-part series, Stephanye will show you the techniques she used to create her uniquely beautiful works of art. Students will explore a path to their creativity through the development of a small fabric collage quilt (approximately 8″ x 10″). This is a two-session class, but students can opt to take either one of the sessions if they wish.
Session 2 will focus on fabric collage construction using fusible applique techniques. Students from the first session will use the templates they created in the first session to construct their quilts from their own photographs. For those who are interested in using a kit, they can purchase a pattern of Oriental Lily, designed by the instructor (see photo or, even better, come see the piece in person at CQ). Students with basic applique skills will fare well in this class. By the end of the class, students will have a small quilt ready for machine raw edge applique, quilting and embellishment! We will look at examples of art and craft from the Renaissance to the present, and we will do some hands-on perspective exercises that will have you thinking and seeing in 3-D without having to put on any silly glasses! Drumming workshops are designed to honor the Native American people and the spirit of the material we’re working with. In most cases we offer Elk or Deer hide and Maple or Cedar. As with all workshops, sacred space is created to work in with calling in the directions and honoring of the elements as well as ancestors. The fun of assembling the drums is only exceeded by the fun we’ll have playing them and realizing the gift of spirit after completion. Read more >
